How We Work
Our Purpose and Structure
Hand To Plough pursue the following charitable purposes as a Public Benevolent Institution:
(applicant with ACNC and ATO – waiting for approval)
We are working for the relief of poverty or distress
(such as sickness, disability, destitution, suffering, misfortune or helplessness)
regardless of age, sex, race, ethnic background, religion, political beliefs or marital status.
We are actively involved in a number of key projects to assist in this regard. Essentially, these projects express our primary focus. We also conduct other activities to help strengthen our core purpose.
Our Primary Focus
Benevolent relief focuses on alleviating poverty and distress, including hardship caused by sickness, disability, destitution, suffering, misfortune, or helplessness. Hand to Plough is dedicated to addressing distress that goes beyond the everyday challenges of life, providing meaningful support to those in urgent need.
For example, our fieldwork in Sri Lanka is specifically aimed at breaking the cycle of modern slavery. Initiatives like the Henny Penny project and our education center empower vulnerable individuals, offering them opportunities to regain control over their lives. Additionally, our ABC4Me program provides education and life skills to disadvantaged young people, equipping them with the tools they need to build a brighter future.
Ancillary Activity
As a PBI applicant, it is important to note that while Hand to Plough primarily focuses on benevolent relief, we also engage in activities that support and sustain our mission.
For example, our Professional Supervision sessions are designed to assist organizations in providing better support to their networks, including Australian charities. While these sessions contribute to mental health and wellbeing within other organizations, they also serve as a fundraising initiative that helps us further our benevolent work, ensuring that we can continue providing direct relief to those in need.
Network
Hand to Plough is committed to providing a holistic service that advances our mission as a PBI charity. This includes:
- Building strong networks with community groups, businesses, and government organizations to enhance our impact.
- Collaborating with like-minded charities, organizations, societies, and churches—whether through receiving donations, providing oversight, or working together to achieve shared benevolent goals.
